A short course designed to benefit the Police Forensic Physician(FP)/Forensic Medical Examiner (FME) in the correct administration of the Field Impairment Test, when undertaking a Section 7(3) (c) examination to determine a condition present.

Note that this course is authorised by the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine and is run on an ad hoc basis.

Course aim

To provide the forensic physician with the skills and knowledge to adequately assess drug
intoxication by the use of the Field Impairment Test and to successfully provide police officers with a comprehensive identification of an individual who may have a condition due to some drug,

Objectives: –

At the end of the session the student will be better able to: –
1. Describe and correctly administer the field impairment tests
2. Provide a correct inference on the results of the test through full and accurate contemporaneous records
3. Generalise on the relevant legislation and practices
